Memorial Day in Pinetop...

Jeff's boss/mentor and his family graciously offered us their home in Pinetop for the holiday weekend. The town is about four hours away from Tucson, and its path is the curviest road I have ever been on! It was really awesome to see trees and "greenness" in a state that is known to be all desert. Truthfully, it reminded me a lot of Reno.  Pinetop is at 7000 feet, and home to a popular ski resort with REAL snow in the winter. (yep, still talking about AZ) Going up there was a nice break from the hot weather in Tucson, since it was in the 70s the whole time.

We drove up Friday night, along with many, many other cars. We enjoyed having the full moon though, because it made for a brighter evening. On Saturday, we drove around the quaint town, and visited Woodland Lake. It has a great trail around it, and we collected pine cones and watched the fisherman fish for trout.

That evening we lit a fire, and made smore's. I think the girls were just fine with the toasted marshmallows. The chocolate was more for me :-) .

The next day, we did more venturing. We took the girls to the golf course that the home was on. They got to hit balls, and we practiced our putting. They love putting and playing with the little flags. Jeff can't wait to go back (maybe this summer) and play that course. It really has some of the greenest grass I've seen on a course, and it's so well-maintained. Later that day, we ventured out to Mormon Lake and watched kids that were Claire's age fishing on the dock. We weren't sure if Claire had the patience for it, but I think next time we'll definitely have to get her a little pole and try it out.
